The Highland Series 2011

The Highland Series for 2011 has now concluded with the finals race in the River Dee on Sunday the 16th October.
The River Dee Kayak Marathon.
49 Paddlers from Scotland took part in the River Dee Kayak Marathon on Sunday. Rachael Syme & Blair Henderson won the Junior race starting & finishing at Aberdeen Boat Club. Colin Calder from NESKY was the 1st Sea Kayaker down the race course from Maryculter bridge to Aberdeen Boat Club. 1st Master in the long course was Greg Manning of Integrate Paddling. The DNV Open Canoe cup was won by Fenekke & Jaap Sinke. Alan & Ursula Mackintosh, KCC were the 1st Mixed double winning the Marsport spraydeck and cag. Dave Egleton of Integrate Paddling took 1st place in the Wavehopper class, breaking his previous record time. Ann Nicol of NESKY won both the Aberdeen Watersports Fastest Lady Quaich and the ladies fastest sea kayak trophy. Aine Larkin & Nigel Lammas of Integrate Paddling won the 1st Double Sea Kayak Tankard. Angela Murray & Sophie Grainer from ABC lifted The Dee Dee’r trophy.

The Highland Series for 2011
The overall Dick Flemming Communications Highland series Quaich (for Dee, Spey & Ness) was won by Kirkcaldy Canoe Club and the K1 overall Highland Claymore trophy was won by Derek Marshall of Linlithgow kayak Racing (on his birthday).

The Highland Series is a club & individual competition that is spread over the 3 Highland Marathon competitions that are held through out the season.
The competitions are held in some of Scotland's most magnificent scenic areas in Spey Side, Ness Side & Royal Dee Side.
Competitors can compete in any type of Kayak or Canoe, K Boat, Wavehopper, Sea Kayak, Open Canadian, Play Boat, Inflatable, etc. Singles & Doubles
Each competitor that finishes a race will be allocated points for their club. The points are tallied up over the 3 races and the club with the most points is presented with the Highland Series Trophy – A large silver quaich. The individual paddlers trophy is a half size Claymore (sword) mounted on plinth.
The defending champions this year are Kirkcaldy Canoe Club & Colin McMorrin
