British Olympic Team 2008

Congratulations to SCA member: David Florence(C1) who won a Silver medal at the Beijing Olympics.
David was also joined in team GB by fellow SCA members Fiona Pennie (K1W) and Campbell Walsh (K1M), making GB Olympic Slalom team 100% Scottish.
The SCA Performance Plan
The SCA runs a performance programme in the two Olympic disciplines of Slalom and Sprint racing. The Performance Plan exists to increase Scottish representation and medal winning athletes within the GB team.
Scottish Athletes
Scots within the GB slalom teams regularly make up 40% of the GB team and have won a sizeable number of medals on the Olympic, World and European stage. Find out more about slalom.
Scottish sprint athletes have represented GB at every level of the sport from Olympic Games to Junior world championships. Find out more about sprint.
Regional Athlete Pathways
Investment from sportscotland and our other partners has allowed the SCA to develop new and enhance existing regional athlete pathways. These pathways form the back bone of our success and focus on:
Early exposure to coach led training and peer group competition
National Programme
Athletes from the regional pathways have the opportunity to move onto the National programme and ultimately the GB team and the Olympic rostrum. The national programme has the following focus:
Identify Talent; Create Opportunities; Fulfill Potential
- Focus coaching resources on the 16 Olympic canoeing events.
- A structure that focuses on developing athlete pathways around key facilities.
- The appointment of professional coaches to provide effective, long term support to developing athletes.
- Assisting clubs and regions to develop canoeing facilities, coaches and competition structures.
