Welcome to Courses & Training

Helping other people to enjoy canoeing or kayaking can be extremely rewarding.  Whether you are already a coach, want to become a coach or are a paddler and looking for coaching, this section of the website should provide you with the information you need. 

The Scottish Canoe Association forms one of the four British Canoe Union home nations associations and delivers the BCU Coaching Scheme.

Coaching Scheme

Members of the Coaching Scheme are active in all areas of paddlesports.  To benefit from the activities of the Coaching Scheme simply contact your Regional Coaching Officer (RCO), Local Coaching Officer (LCO) or the SCA Office.  Local clubs also provide access to coaching and many coaches are most active within clubs or Approved Centres/Providers.

The Coaching Scheme provides:

  • A safe, enjoyable and complete introduction to the sport;
  • A network of qualified and experienced coaches;
  • Access to expertise in all areas of the sport;
  • A full range of courses from novice to expert;
  • UK recognised awards with consistently maintained standards;
  • A Coaching Organiser in each region;
  • Advice on all aspects of the sport;
  • Contact with the various disciplines of the sport.
