Equity at Events and Courses
The check list below is a useful reminder when checking organisation of events. It also touches on the role models we portray and about our responsibility to actively promote paddlesports as a ‘sport for all’. The following list is not exhaustive and is not in any particular order.
Venue
- Is venue accessible for public transport?
- If wheel chair users are attending is the car parking accessible?
- Are there clear signs to and at the venue?
- Is the fire alarm visual as well as audible?
- Are all escape routes clear and accessible at all times?
- Is there a toilet and accommodation suitable for disabled participants and spectators?
- Are there women only changing facilities?
- If participants/spectators with young children will attend are there baby changing facilities?
Speakers/Facilitators
- Are speakers/facilitators aware of the SCA Equity Policy and their role in its implementation?
Promotion
- Is the publicity in Plain English?
- Does the publicity distribution process include the informal networks and community focal points?
Event
- Have you consulted with representatives from groups you hope to attract to the event?
- Is the timing of the event appropriate and user friendly?
- Is the pricing affordable for a wide band of potential participants?
- Is the equipment suitable for a wide band of potential participants?
Participants
- Is there a code of practice?
- Are there ways of monitoring behaviour?
- Is there a suggestions/complaints procedure?
