First SCA Coaching Apprentice - 26 January 2012

The SCA is pleased to announce the first modern apprentice in canoeing in Scotland. Jed Sloan has recently joined the SCA as a Coaching Apprentice based in Tayside. Jed will work alongside SCA Development Coach Steve Macdonald

He will also be involved in a range of regional and national SCA coaching activities and events. The apprenticeship programme is delivered in partnership with the Sports Academy of Scotland, a training provider of Scottish modern apprenticeships in the sport, leisure and recreation sector.

Jed is already a BCU UKCC Level 1 coach having taken part in the Tayside Coach Development Programme in 2011. As a member of Breadalbane Canoe Club, Jed has been paddling for seven years, mainly in white water and slalom and also has experience as a raft guide.

The SCA has at least one further opportunity for an apprentice aged 16-19. If you would like to find out more, contact Andy Murray

Coaching Committee - Coach Update - 03 October 2011

The SCA coaching committee, through its Chair, Gordon Brown, is requesting that COG (the BCU Coaching Operations Group) undertake a full review of the update process.  We hope to see an update process that is more relevant, robust and is delivered at a consistently high standard.  As is appropriate for a review we have requested that all options are considered.

We have requested that consideration be given to some of the concepts within discipline specific revalidation; however, we currently are not suggesting a system where all coaches need regular reassessment of their awards.

Should COG decide to perform this review then we will consult coaches throughout Scotland to insure that we accurately represent their views.
