Paddle 2012 Speakers
Information about the line up of speakers at Paddle 2012 will appear here in due course.
At Paddle 2011 we had a great line up of speakers:
Jonny Hawkins. The 2011 British Universities Kayaking Expedition team have recently returned from the Venezuelan Andes, and Jonny will be presenting some video footage of their trip.
Sarah Brown & Mike Dales. Together with the SCA’s Mike Dales, Sarah (from The Green Blue) will be demonstrating some practical information about how paddlers can limit the spread of nonnative species.
Marcus Demuth. Marcus will be talking about his 2010 circumnavigation of Great Britain and his trip around South America’s largest island, Isla Tierra del Fuego.
Ian Francis: RSPB Scotland’s Ian Francis discussed some of the bird species you can see while canoeing or kayaking in Scotland.
Steven Hanton: A full-time wilderness living skills instructor, Steven will be gave some advice on how to survive in the wilderness when things don’t go to plan.
Richard Harpham: With over 5,000 miles of kayaking, canoeing and cycling under his belt in the last three years, Richard talked about his adventures and his next big expedition from Niagara Falls to the Statue of Liberty, which you could join him on!
Scott Leslie: BUNAC organises a range of summer camp and work abroad programme, and Scott discussed how you can get involved in canoe and kayak coaching at Summer Camp USA.
Bruce Jolliffe: Earlier in 2011, Bruce embarked on a charity fundraising ‘West Coast Kayak Challenge’ up the West Coast of Scotland. He spoke aout the journey, which took him from Largs, on the Firth of Clyde, to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.
Donald Macpherson: The Great Glen Canoe Trail is Scotland’s first canoe trail, and Donald (as Project Officer) introduced a video of the project ahead of its completion in March 2012.
Richard ‘Biscuit’ Turner: An established favourite, ‘Biscuit’ had a look around the stands and used his knack for seeking out innovative gadgets and devices. We enjoyed a short ‘fashion show’ of some of the best kit out there.
Douglas Wilcox: Douglas has been sailing, windsurfing and kayaking the west coast of Scotland since 1959 and has combined his interest in sea kayaking with his photography talents. He’ll be shared some of the results at this year’s show.
Simon Willis: Simon is a TV journalist who has worked for the BBC as a reporter and presenter for various shows. He introduced Gordon Brown’s new ‘Rescues’ DVD on both Saturday and Sunday.
Anne Young & Rick Raeburn: Anne is a full-time Coastguard Sector Manager based in Dornoch and Rick has been with the RNLI’s Sea Safety department for the past eleven years. They discussied location aids.
