Touring Photo Competition

The competition aims to celebrate the wonderful diversity of Touring by sea kayak and open canoe. Your photos can be taken on an SCA Touring Calendar trip, or on a trip of your own. Photos should capture your touring experience – whether in an open canoe or a sea kayak. Photos will be displayed at the Paddle exhibition at Perth where visitors will vote for their favourite images and prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category.
The engraved trophies have a life history of their own. The "Arduaine” Trophy from the now defunct campsite at Loch Melfort where the owner, John Rintoul, for many years made sea kayakers welcome. On one occasion there was a surplus of money taken for camp fees which John returned. This was used to purchase the trophy.
The “Word and Image” Trophy from the Greenock printing company owned by Robert Todd. Robert was one of the first of the modern set of paddlers on the west coast. The present Touring Calendar is an extension of the calendar of trips that Robert ran on his own for several years. Robert printed calendars for the touring committee in the first year of the photo competition, using the winning entries. The profit from the sales was used to buy the trophy.
