The River Tay is renowned for salmon fishing and being one of the best rivers for paddlesport in the United Kingdom. It is very important to the local economy and people travel from far and wide to fish the river and to take part in white water rafting, kayaking, canoeing and other forms of paddlesport.

The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code provide the framework within which we all engage in our respective activities. Understanding the activities carried out by others and having an appreciation of their needs goes a long way towards minimising the impact we have. UTROA, the SRA and the SCA are proud of the work we have jointly done to date to help all those using the river to understand their rights and responsibilities and to promote harmonious use of the river.

As we start another summer season on the river, the three organisations would like to jointly reinforce some of the key messages regarding shared use of the Upper Tay in this short statement.
