The Scottish Canoe Association are seeking an extremely capable individual to join our existing performance team, delivering daily coaching to the SCA Performance Squad. The successful applicant will require a strong knowledge of Canoe Sprint, a track record of delivering coach-led sessions as well as excellent interpersonal skills. We would expect a candidate to work well with others, be dynamic and innovative, have the wellbeing of athletes at the core of their philosophy, and be an excellent communicator.

This role is made possible through sportscotland investment and is supported by the sportscotland Institute of Sport (SIS). The ultimate performance aim of this programme is to develop paddlers to successfully transfer to the British Canoeing World Class Performance programme funded by UK Sport. It also endeavours to provide the best support for all athletes, taking care of both performance and wellbeing, leaving all who pass through it in a better place.

Job Title: 
SCA Performance Coach - Sprint

Contract:
0.8 x FTE, open-ended contract - subject to ongoing investment into the SCA Performance Programme

Location:
Edinburgh area although the role also involves undertaking work throughout Scotland, the UK and Europe.

Salary:
£18,000 to £22,000 per annum - dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.

Key work areas
  • Developing coach-led training to Performance Programme athletes on a day to day basis
  • Delivering coaching at identified Performance Programme training camps and races
  • Coordinating and developing the training environments for Performance Programme athletes
  • Coordinating with Sport Services (SIS) Leads and Providers to deliver support to athletes integrated within Performance Programme activities.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic effective coach, committed to developing themselves and their practice to impact positively on improving the performance of the athletes with the support of a wider team of experts. They will relish being part of a successful, geographically distributed team working to achieve the objectives set out in the SCA 4 year Strategic Plan.
