SCA Recognition Award Winners - Volunteer Coach of the Year 2019

Over the next 8 days we will be celebrating the SCA Recognition Award Winners in 2019.

People are at the heart of paddling in Scotland and SCA tries to recognise this in part through the Annual Recognition Awards. We all know someone who puts in that bit extra, goes beyond their normal duties, stays later, always seems to be available, always happy to help.

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners in 2019, and on behalf of the paddlesport community, a big THANK YOU for all that you do.

Volunteer Coach of the Year: This award is for coaches who give up their free time – working within schools, clubs, youth groups, volunteer groups etc. They pass on skills and knowledge, and encourage others to have a go and improve their paddling.

Winner: Chris Curry

"Chris has been helping with Pinkston Panthers almost since the club started and has been involved in the development of a whole range of paddlers in different age groups, primarily towards slalom competition.
Perhaps Chris's single biggest achievement which the club are most proud of is his support of a student from Hungary who was a beginner when she joined the club 3 years ago. With Chris's support she reached Division 1 in June last year. Less than a year later, she competed in a World Cup Race at Lee Valley where she was able to get every gate on both runs - this is a major achievement in such a short space of time, and for which Chris' support and coaching has been a significant factor.

It’s not only Pinkston Panthers paddlers that are Chris’ focus, he really goes above and beyond, offering help to paddlers from other clubs at training sessions, and competitions no matter how busy he is, and lends a supportive shoulder no matter the outcome of a race. "
