Wanted - Young Paddlers with potential!

May 18, 2022

We are looking for Young People in paddlesport who are passionate about the sport and about helping others.

If you know someone who fits the bill we’d love to know. We currently have two opportunities for young people and need help to find the right young people to get involved.

Young Ambassadors Programme

We are looking to recruit a team of young people aged 14-22 who want to make a difference in Paddlesport. This 2-year long programme will involve regular online catch-ups and two residential weekend events a year. These sessions will include a range of activities designed to support their development as a paddler, and help them make a difference in the sport.

Coach Training

Glenmore Lodge 18 and Under Core Coach Training 18th & 19th July

After being inspired by our
young paddlesport instructors of the last couple of years, we have launched a new Core Coach Training course in partnership with Glenmore Lodge designed specifically for young people aged 18 and under.

If you know someone who is ready to start their paddlesport coaching qualification journey, please let us know.

How can you help?

  • Encourage - sometimes all it takes is for someone to believe in them!
  • Support - helping with the practicalities of making it happen
  • Financial support - the course costs £200 - £285, with SportScotland funding covering 60% leaving the young person to find £80 - £115 to fund themselves (or to find funding to cover). Can you help them source this extra funding to cover the rest?

Nominate Someone

Do you know someone who might benefit from these programmes? Can you think of a particular young paddler who is passionate about being on the water and has the potential to become a great coach? Or can you think of a young person who inspires others and has shown an interest in making changes to benefit other young paddlers? Your nomination might be the one thing they need to encourage them to take the step forwards.

How to nominate someone:
Simply email lara.cooper@canoescotland.org to tell us who you’d like to nominate and a sentence or two about why you’re putting them forward. If they are not yet a member we might also need you to help us with a contact for them so we can get in touch.
