May 17, 2023

4 Scottish athletes took part in the ICF Canoe Sprint and Para Canoe World cup in Szeged, Hungary between the 11-14th May 2023 with Hope Gordon once again delivering a medal winning performance

It was a thrilling weekend for Scottish athletes at the ICF Canoe Sprint and Para World Cup, as they showcased their skills and determination on the water. From heart-pounding races to near-podium finishes, these remarkable athletes continue to shine on the international stage.

Hope Gordon delivered yet another outstanding performance. On Friday, she claimed a well-deserved silver medal in the women's VL3 event. She followed this up narrowly missing out on another podium finish, securing fourth place in the KL3 category with a time of 49.45. Although it was a close call, her impressive display shows promise for the rest of the season.

Lewis Fletcher made a powerful statement in the Men's 200m event. He delivered a strong performance in the B final, crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 36.68. Lewis showcased his prowess once again in the K2 500m race, partnering with Phil Miles. After a remarkable display in the heats, where they finished fourth, the duo gave their all in the semi-final, finishing in a respectable ninth place.

Deborah Kerr was once again part of a strong British Women’s K4.  Amongst tough competition, they showed unwavering determination leading to an eighth-place finish only 1.8s away from the podium. She had a tougher time in the K2 500m, exiting the competition in the Heats with her partner Emily Lewis.

Completing the Scottish quartet was Katie Reid. She gave an outstanding performance paddling with Beth Gill in the C2 500m. They secured a well-deserved third place in the B-Final with a time of 2:07:98.

As the competition came to a close, the Scottish athletes have once again shown what they can do when representing GB. We wish them all the best for their future challenges and victories through the next season.
