Club Committee Virtual Meet

May 01, 2020
On Tuesday 28th April the SCA hosted a meeting for club committee members that represented 13 clubs between attendees, and stretching the length and breadth of Scotland. This gathering of club committee members allowed the sharing of ideas of what clubs have been doing to keep connected with their members as well as the wider paddling community. Many clubs are keeping in contact via Facebook or other social media. Some were looking for ideas of how they might continue to engage with their paddlers, and received suggestions ranging from online zoom quizzes, to keep fit boxercise, to various challenges having been set by some clubs.

The level of support that clubs are able to offer members is dependent on their liabilities or financial situation. Some clubs are continuing to pay employed coaches or offering free membership for the next year, while others are raising funds to support facilities like Pinkston Watersports to be able to return to operate after the lockdown. Some clubs are using the time to look at admin or investigating becoming a SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation).

Other discussions ranged from when we might be able to paddle again, and how this might look for both individuals and clubs over the coming months. While not necessarily coming up with any specific solutions until we know the scientific and government advice, it was a worthwhile exercise in sharing thoughts and ideas and getting ready for our return to the water.

If you feel this is something you would be interested in taking part in there is a follow up planned for Tuesday 26th May at 7.00pm. Click here for further information on future dates and other events.
