Could you be our next #ShePaddles Ambassador? Applications now open!

Aug 05, 2022

Applications are now open to become one of our 2022/23 #ShePaddles Ambassadors!

We are looking for three inspirational women to represent paddling in Scotland.

If you want to share your love of paddlesport and inspire other women and girls to participate- YOU could be just who we are looking for. It is the chance for you to share your paddling journey, success and how you overcame challenges. We want the reality of the sport to shine through!

Now in its fifth year, over 45 Ambassadors have been recruited to #ShePaddles including midlife adventurer and author Jo Moseley and Tokyo 2020 Games Olympian Kimberley Woods.

In the last 12 months, our Ambassadors have included:

  • Charlotte Ditchburn – a keen adventurer, environmentalist and supporter of our Clear Access, Clear Waters campaign. Charlotte supported our Big Paddle Cleanup and got her local community involved in a cleanup on the River Eden.
  • Shilpa Rasaiah, featured in the Daily Telegraph thanks to completing an epic 160-mile paddle from London to Nottingham. Read more about Shilpa’s inspiring SUP the Grand Union challenge here.
  • Lisa Dickinson – a whitewater kayaker who started her paddling journey four years ago. Lisa is an advocate for mental health and has shared her experiences of the rollercoaster of a journey it was learning to kayak. Take a read of her article in The Paddler here.
  • Anna Stishova – the Kayaking Hijabi who is leading on groundbreaking outreach work with Muslim women and girls in the North West. Read Anna's interview in the latest issue of Canoe Focus here.

Who can become an Ambassador?

We are looking for three women to represent paddlesport in Scotland;

If you are a woman, aged sixteen or over, with an enthusiasm for paddling, we’d love to hear from you.

You can be a recreational paddler, new to the sport, a coach, leader or athlete...we just want people who love paddling!

  • Do you have a great story to share about your journey into paddlesport?
  • Do you feel you can be a role model for other women and girls?
  • Do you love shouting about paddling on social media?

If you've answered 'yes' to any of the questions above then you are just who we’re looking for.

Applications close on 21st August 2022.

Why should you apply?

We hear from current Ambassador, Emy McLeod, on why she applied:

"I applied to be a #ShePaddles Ambassador to build confidence in females and motivate them to push their paddling to the next level. To encourage and support them in their coaching and leadership pathways, and to meet like minded people across the UK in paddling.

It is a great scheme to be involved in, you meet some amazing and inspiring individuals and you get to give something back to the paddling community with a great network of support.

Some of my favourite moments while being a #ShePaddles Ambassador are working on paddle symposiums, coaching events and seeing people achieve their coaching and leadership certifications. Hearing direct feedback from females who came to come-and-try sessions, stepping out their comfort zones and achieving more than they thought they ever could."

We know you don’t need extra motivation to do what you do but we like to thank our Ambassadors for the great work they do. If you become one of our #ShePaddles Ambassadors you can expect from us:

  • Some rather cool kit! We are working to bring you some fantastic gear for both on and off the water
  • Lots of big shout outs from us! We want to share the love and raise your profile too
  • Our Ambassador launch day will be on Saturday 17th September 2022 where you will get to meet your fellow awesome Ambassadors and get some time on the water as well

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss further about the role or the application process.
