Female Equality Group Meeting Update (3rd March 2021)

Report by Jess Philip, SCA Female Equality Group

Our last meeting on Wednesday (3rd of March) was mainly discussing ongoing projects such as the women’s courses calendar and looking at increasing the presence of female paddlers in images and articles in Scottish paddler.

A summary of the topics discussed are included below:

  • How do we measure the impact of our work? Is there a better method to do this than others
  • Continued talk about the woman’s courses calendar being released on 08th March. A group of course providers met a week ago and had a really interesting discussion how these events could take place and what would be needed to support them. There were 22 courses listed in a range of disciplines on the night of the meeting, which will be placed in the women go paddling section of the SCA website.
  • Scottish women’s paddling symposium, will be back in 2022 and an organising committee is being recruited, if people are interested in joining this please get in contact
  • Paddler articles what do people want to see? And looking to do an interview with Lara Cooper who is the person leading the female equality group in the SCA.
  • A new campaign will soon be released to publicise the work on equality that is being done at the moment.
  • There was also a discussion about the redevelopment of the SCA Campsite at Grandtully, with the arrangement of the changing and toilet areas. The possibility of having an outside group changing area as well as cubicles inside the building and toilets.
