#IBelongOnTheWater

#IBelongOntheWater is our new campaign all about celebrating our sense of connection with the environment, with paddlesports and our affinity with the people in it. It’s a new strapline for SCA and we’re encouraging you to get involved.

We are a community of paddlers, each with our own identity, motivations and passions. But we all share that connection of belonging on the water.

The feeling of ‘belonging’ will be very personal to every individual, the things that make us feel happy or comfortable in a situation will vary enormously. Our aim is to encourage wide use of the #IBelongOnTheWater strapline, across diverse communities showcasing the huge range of different perspectives and motivations for taking part. #IBelongOnTheWater sends out the message “if I belong here, so can you”.

We are passionate at the SCA about making sure that paddlesport is a place for all. We feel that this strapline communicates this and supports our ongoing work on equality, diversity and inclusion.

We hope that you can connect to this too, and will help us spread the message wide and far!

Get Involved!

There are a number of ways you can get involved and help us to share the message to help everyone see why they too, can belong on the water.

1. Share your #IBelongOnTheWater Selfie

Creating a #IBelongOnTheWater Selfie is a great way to share your love of paddling to inspire the rest of the world!

Share what motivates you, what you love about getting on the water and how you feel you connect to our sport.

Sharing your story will inspire others and help showcase the wide range of different perspectives and motivations. There will be someone out there who connects with your story, thinking: “if you belong, so can I”.

Here's how to do it:

  • Take a selfie, and add the hashtag ‘#IBelongOnTheWater’ and words to describe what that means to you. Write on a piece of paper and hold it in the selfie, or you can add the words using your phone’s photo app or in your social media app (e.g. Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories, or a LinkedIn post)
  • Share your picture on your social media, with the #IBelongOnTheWater hashtag and tag us using the following handles:

Twitter:  @canoescotland

Facebook:  @ScottishCanoeAssociation

Instagram: @scottishcanoe

Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing your #IBelongOnTheWater selfies to help inspire others.
