Jon stated: “I am happy to have enjoyed this role in Scotland over the last few years, getting to know paddlers young and old across the wide spectrum of disciplines. I’m proud of the performance coaching team we have put in place for the SCA, in particular I’m pleased that we have such good people in place with a strong desire to support our paddlers and to share their passion for the sport through their ideas, energy and enthusiasm. In many ways this has been a dream job for me and I am now going to focus on new opportunities elsewhere. As a paddler for virtually all my life I intend to continue to engage with the SCA and paddlesport in Scotland and I hope to see many of you out on the water soon.”
Stuart Smith, SCA CEO, commented: “The SCA has been extremely fortunate to have had Jon as our Head of Performance and Pathways. Jon has contributed greatly to the success of the SCA performance programme as well as the organisation overall, handling complicated and challenging situations particularly during the COVID times. Jon has been a stalwart member of SCA staff and will be sorely missed by athletes, volunteers and his SCA colleagues. He has established an effective team of committed coaches engaged in the delivery of the SCA Performance Programme. The SCA will now enter into discussions with sportscotland regarding the way forwards.“
