Notice - Gladhouse Reservoir

Aug 30, 2022

PLEASE NOTE:

GLADHOUSE RESERVOIR, MIDLOTHIAN

This reservoir has had much pressure from water-users over the past two years,

mainly from paddle-boarders from the immediate surrounding area, and Edinburgh.

The following has been instituted by Scottish Water, the land-owners;

 - Vehicle and people access on the south side has been barred totally, but the

hill-walkers car park is still open.

- There is now a Clearway all round the reservoir, apart from a short distance

on the south-western end. Drivers parking on this clearway have received

tickets from the Police.

- The kerbside parking extends for some 300m at present, entailing a walk for

people with water-craft. A permanent car park is due to be built by Scottish

Water.

- The land on the west side, the only area open to the public near to parking, is

now seriously contaminated with human waste, and is a health hazard. You

are advised to keep well away.

- Scottish Water intends to invest in the reservoir surroundings in the future to

make it more pleasant for visitors

-The reservoir is currently (end of August 2022), at an historically very low

level due to the drought
