#ShePaddles Ambassadors Announcement

Sep 02, 2022

The #ShePaddles Programme aims to create an opportunity for inspiring women to share their passion for paddling, supporting their voice within the paddlesports community and helping them establish themselves as a role model for other women.

It is with great enthusiasm that the SCA announce the three #ShePaddles Ambassador for the year 2022-2023!

Here are our ambasaddors and what they have to say:

Claire Scott -  Claire says,

'I started paddle boarding recreationally about 4 years ago, unlike lots of coaches I’ve met, it was the first time I’d really done any water kind of sport and I fell for SUP immediately..

I started a small Facebook group so I could share trips and pictures with a small group of new friends I’d made paddling and it now has over 1500 members and is growing daily.. The page is used to share content on local locations, tips, courses, kit, safety and environmental issues and so much more…

I also recently became the “paddle boarding” lead at my local Sailing club volunteering there to promote and grow the SUP community.. organising SUP events and arranging courses.

With so much of my life revolving around SUP it made a lot of sense to become a coach. I started training hard in April and I’m over the moon that I’m now a fully qualified Sheltered water SUP coach, joining a growing group of inspiring female coaches in my area.

Its an amazing honour to be chosen as a #ShePaddles ambassador. It’s really great to be seen as someone with the potential to help make a difference and maybe inspire more women to start their SUP journey.

I’ll use this platform to grow opportunities for women and girls in my local paddling community. I’m totally committed to spreading the joy that paddle boarding can bring. It will be amazing to have the support of British Canoeing and SCA while I undertake this journey. '

Savanna Gude - Savanna’s paddlesport journey has taken her solo travelling around the world kayaking in New Zealand, and has had her own canoe in Banff Canada.  Savanna says,

‘I’m Savanna from Perth in Scotland! I'm so happy to be selected! I hope my vision and my passion for my love of being on my SUP will help me get other women of all ages, all sizes, all backgrounds and make it accessible for women of all abilities to try and enjoy paddle sports.'

Lauren Darragh - Lauren says,

'I’m an active Paddlesport Instructor as well as a Teacher, and love getting involved with local clubs and groups to get people out on the water and learning a new set of skills! I'm always looking to improve my skills and I'm a part of the SCA womens' coach development programme which is super exciting!

I’m super stoked to be a part of the #ShePaddles ambassador scheme and I look forward to using this opportunity to help other women and girls have the confidence to get involved with and stick with the sport! I got into paddling through university and struggled massively with confidence in myself, finding equipment and boats that fit and allowed me to push myself, and finding the support I needed to improve. I’d love to use my role as a #ShePaddles ambassador to help find kit which works for women and advertise it so that others don’t have to face the struggles which I had to just to be safe out on the water. I’d also love to help set up a platform for women in Scotland to meet fellow lady paddlers, discuss their experiences, and find people to have fun with so that more women stick with the sport!'
