Below is a summary of the backgrounds of the two new directors:
Susie Benson
Susie applied to join the SCA Board to help support the overarching growth of paddlesport within our country. She sees sport as a vehicle for life-long learning and creating an active nation.
Susie believes that the SCA ambition of welcoming everyone to participate and using the support of the membership to influence at government level in relation to the wider active nation agenda is extremely positive and progressive.
Susie has a lifelong passion for paddlesport and sport in general and has recently been appointed as Corporate Partnerships Executive for the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity. She has until recently worked as a senior manager at Triathlon Scotland and has a great insight into how sports governing bodies work on behalf of their members and to increase participation in sport.
Alex Mitchell
Whilst at school, Alex was the student canoeing instructor in the Cadet force. He firmly believes in the power of sport and is keen to be involved in it again to help other people benefit from the freedom and confidence which it gave him.
He is a senior leader with over 18 years of experience in both commercial and not for profit sectors and in his current role as the Founder and Chair of a high profile business network at the UK’s oldest business membership organisation, he has created and launched a new product that attracted over 3,000 younger business directors to join as members.
He is passionate about the role sport can make on society and communities and founded and runs a charity supplying sports equipment to those who most need it.
He is keen to apply his experience of partnership working to support the SCA Board and wider team to explore additional funding opportunities and create future long-term partnerships.
